St. Louis CITY SC Signs German International Eduard Löwen

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis CITY SC have signed German International Eduard Löwen as a Designated Player, pending ITC and P-1 Visa, the club announced today. Löwen is signed through 2026 with an option for 2027 and will occupy an International spot and CITY SC’s second DP slot.


“We are excited to add a quality player like Eduard to our squad,” said Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel. “The experience he has already acquired at his age will be crucial for our team and he will bring structure and strategy in the center of our midfield. His physical attributes and leadership qualities are two strong parts to why he fits perfectly in our DNA. Eduard is a box-to-box player and an important piece to the spine of the squad.”

For country, Löwen has featured for both the German youth international and Olympic national squads, scoring a goal at three different international levels. The German midfielder made his first appearance on the German youth international stage for the Under-20 team during the U-20 Elite League. He started and played all 90 minutes for matches against U-20 Netherlands and U-20 Switzerland, including his first career international goal in the 2-1 win over U-20 Switzerland.

“Eduard can be a difference maker on both sides of the ball,” said Head Coach Bradley Carnell. “His position as a six on the field (defensive midfielder) is an important part to our system and his skills are well-suited for our style of play.”

Löwen quickly rose to the Under-21 Germany team where he featured seven times, five of which were during the UEFA European U-21 Championship Qualifying matches. He tallied a goal in five starts and 330 minutes play during the qualifying matches and also appeared in two international friendlies. Following successful stints at the U-20 and U-21 squads, Löwen was called in for the German Olympic National team. He appeared in all three matches, tallying a goal and two starts.

For club, Löwen made his senior team debut at 20-years-old for 1.FC Nuremberg on March 12, 2017 in a 1-0 win against Arminia Bielefeld. He amassed eight goals and 10 assists over 5,127 minutes played for FC Nuremberg during a two-season stint. Löwen was then acquired by Hertha BSC on July 1, 2019 and appeared 14 times over a two-season span, while also being loaned out to FC Augsburg (Jan. 5, 2020 – Oct. 5, 2020) and VfL Bochum (July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022).
