England goalkeeper Nick Pope arrived at the home of Newcastle United today as he prepares for a transfer from Burnley.

Pope looks set to join the Magpies for around £12m as he ends a six-year spell at Turf Moor.

When fit, the keeper has been a constant presence for the Clarets and has picked up over 100 Premier League caps.

He has also been on the fringes of the England setup, playing eight games across the past four years.

Despite only missed two league games last season, Pope couldn’t keep Burnley in the Premier League as they finished three point from safety in 18th.

Pope would become the second summer signing for Newcastle boss Eddie Howe after the capture of full-back Matt Targett, who spent the second half of last season on loan at St James’ Park from Aston Villa

The Magpies are expected to repeat their January spending spree, where they bought over £90m of players to turn around their dire start to the season.

It may mean offloading some players, though as Howe battles to whittle his side down to a 25-man-squad without leaving out key players.

The experienced and highly-rated Pope could be a key presence in goal for a Newcastle side that finished last season with a goal difference of -18.
