Tottenham ramp up centre-half pursuit by ‘considering’ moves for young Bundesliga duo

Tottenham-linked defender Piero Hincapie before a match

Tottenham are in ‘pole position’ to sign Frankfurt’s Evan Ndicka and are also ‘considering a move’ for Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie, according to reports.

Despite the improved form of Ben Davies and Eric Dier in Antonio Conte’s back-three, the Italian head coach is still prioritising a central defender this summer.

Transfer gossip: Arsenal set to spend £215m this summer; youngster snubs Liverpool transfer

Conte has already been backed by Daniel Levy in the transfer window, with the signings of Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma.

The north Londoners have been linked with Villarreal’s Pau Torres, RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol and Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.

Ndicka is out of contract in June 2023, with Frankfurt – who will play Champions League football in 2022/22 – keen to extend his contract or receive a fee his summer.

As for Hincapie, the Mirror claim that Spurs are ‘considering a move’ for the Ecuadorian central defender.

The report states that ‘Hincapie has been on Tottenham’s radar for some time’ and, like Ndicka, is left-footed, which has become very desirable for defensive depth.

The 20-year-old helped Ecuador qualify for this winter’s World Cup and Leverkusen are said to be preparing themselves for offers in the coming weeks.

“It’s down to Conte’s influence. Conte means business, there’s no messing about,” O’Hara said to Grosvenor Sport.

“And Daniel Levy knows he can’t mess him about or he will walk. You’ve got a manager now that’s world class and has got Spurs in the Champions League when they were nowhere near it in terms of how they were playing.

“So Daniel Levy has thought, ‘I have to back this guy, I have to give him what he wants’. Normally they would wait…
