Sources claim Tottenham could have to wait until end of window to land key £65m target

Tottenham target Richarlison stretches

Tottenham could be made to wait until the end of the transfer window to land Everton forward Richarlison, according to reports.

The Brazil international was in good form again for the Toffees over the past season as he helped them narrowly avoid relegation from the Premier League.

He contributed ten goals and five assists in 30 Premier League appearances which has been enough to attract interest from a number of clubs.

Tottenham have been particularly heavily linked to Richarlison so far this summer with one recent report in The Sun claiming that Everton will demand £65m, which is £15m more than Spurs were hoping to pay, for their prized asset.

And now The Athletic journalist David Ornstein claims that Everton’s high demands could see the deal done towards the end of the window with no negotiations currently taking place between the clubs.

Ornstein said on The Athletic‘s YouTube channel: “Yes, there is some interest from Tottenham, but no, they’re not in negotiations with Everton yet – that may follow, of course.

“At this point in time, Everton are setting an extremely high asking price for Richarlison. Tottenham won’t come to the level of finance that Everton would be looking for at this point.

“But, there are a number of people around the game who think that with Everton’s financial position, they may, as the window goes on, get squeezed into accepting a lower figure for him, and that’s when Tottenham might feel that they can pounce.

“And, when you speak to certain sources around Everton, they think this move will end up happening by the end of the transfer window.”

And former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson reckons Richarlison would “suit” Thomas Tuchel’s style more than Romelu Lukaku, who wants to leave this summer.

“I certainly believe he would suit the way Chelsea play more than Romelu Lukaku,” Johnson told BettingOdds.

“Whether he’s good enough to be their main man and get 20 goals a season, then I’m not so sure.

“I do like him though and I think he’s a good player and it could be a sensible move if the fee is reasonable.”
