CARSON, California – Monterey Bay F.C. (4-10-0, 12 points) fell 3-2 to LA Galaxy II at Dignity Health Sports Park on Wednesday night. Second-half goals from Morey Doner and Adrian Rebollar kept the Crisp and Kelp in the match, but a three-goal performance from Galaxy II’s Preston Judd proved too much to overcome.

Just six minutes into the match, Galaxy II forward Judd scored the opening goal with a header from the center of the box following an early set piece opportunity for the hosts. Five minutes later Judd scored again, this time from distance, to double the Galaxy II lead to 2-0. In the 43rd minute of the match, Christian Volesky made a run down the left side of the field before feeding the ball into the box towards Walmer Martinez, but Martinez’ ensuing shot missed over the top of the crossbar and the half ended 2-0 in favor of LA.

Monterey Bay F.C. got onto the board just six minutes into the second half. After earning a corner kick opportunity, James Murphy picked out Doner at the top of the box, who fired the ball into the back of the net to cut the deficit in half. But just two minutes later, Judd scored his third goal of the match to complete his hat trick and extend the Galaxy II lead to 3-1. Refusing to go away quietly, Kai Greene found Rebollar near the top of the box, who then snuck the ball inside the left post in the 62nd minute to bring the score to 3-2, giving the Union life in the match. Then in the 68th minute, a cross into the box connected with the head of Martinez, but the goalkeeper saved the shot. Despite a couple of chances late in the match, Monterey Bay came up short 3-2, the club’s second loss at Dignity Health Sports Park this season.
