Should he complete the move, he will give Antonio Conte another high quality midfield option.

Rodrigo Bentancur arrived in January and predominantly partnered Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for the remainder of the season as Spurs qualified for the Champions League.

Conte’s midfield strengthening is set to result in academy product Harry Winks being squeezed out, though he is a man in demand with interest from the likes of Everton and Crystal Palace.

Conte is also targeting reinforcements in defence, further forward in midfield and attack.
