Lukaku ‘doesn’t want to consider solution other than Inter’

Romelu Lukaku looks frustrated

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is only considering playing for Inter Milan next season, according to reports.

Lukaku re-joined the Blues last summer in a club-record £97m transfer but struggled for form throughout the entirety of the 2021/22 campaign.

He scored 15 goals in 44 matches across all competitions – including eight in 26 Premier League encounters.

The Belgian signed from Inter Milan and after a few months back at Stamford Bridge he spoke to Italian media in what turned out to be a controversial interview.

Explaining that he was unhappy with his situation at Chelsea, Lukaku expressed his desire to return to Inter.

And with the summer transfer window now open, rumours that the 29-year-old will swap London for Milan are circulating.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Lukaku’s situation is ‘blocking half of Europe’s market’. The report explains how an exit from Chelsea could set off a domino effect of transfers around the continent.

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi ‘wants him’ and ‘can’t wait to embrace his Romelu again’.

Furthermore, it is added that ‘Lukaku doesn’t want to consider another solution other than Inter, at least for the next two weeks’, or ‘at least until he gets on his knees in front of the Blues to free him’.

The Belgium international ‘doesn’t want to hear about anything else’ and sees the move to Inter as a ‘desperate and indispensable pursuit to archive a terrible year from a professional point of view’.

It is believed that any transfer would likely be a loan deal with a large fee up front, potentially as high as €25m.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have extended Billy Gilmour’s contract with his new deal expiring at the end of the 23/24 campaign.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan with Norwich City, making 28 appearances across all competitions for the Canaries.

He joined Chelsea from Rangers in 2017. He had a spell as an academy player before being offered a professional contract.
