June 11, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release

Colorado Springs, CO – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC earned another three big points as they took on LA Galaxy II for the first time in the 2022 campaign, coming out on top with a final score of 3-1.

The game started slow, with neither team able to hold possession of the ball for long. LA Galaxy II played a strong five in the back, forcing the Switchbacks to carry most of their possession in the defensive third while unable to get through the opposition for a goal scoring opportunity. A few early game free kicks were awarded to both sides, and a through ball chance to #23 Elvis Amoh is caught offisides, before the first goal of the night is awarded to LA in the 14′ as Remi Cabral gets a center of the box shot that sneaks past Switchbacks goal tender Christian Herrera. The Switchbacks get a good opportunity off a free kick in the 25′, but the short kick from Cam Lindley ultimately ends up in the goaltender’s arms.

The Switchbacks would earn their first goal of the evening in the 37th minute, as an assist from Matt Mahoney to Hadji Barry in the center of the box earns a very close right footed center goal. Barry and Ngalina would both get opportunities in the last few minutes of the first half, but are unable to convert the chances into goals.

The Switchbacks began the second half with a much more aggressive tactic, and would have three big opportunities in the first ten minutes of the second half. In the 58′, Ngalina would carry a pass from the top of the right of the box down to Amoh at the center, who would push it past the LA goalkeeper right at the goal line to earn their second goal of the night.

The third and final goal of the night for COS in the 67′ as Cam Lindley was able to wing the ball over a wall of LA players in a free kick that would find it’s home in the bottom right corner of the net in a huge goal.

A well paced game, the Switchbacks held possession for only 55.3% of the match, and Christian Herrera, in his debut for the Switchbacks, made seven huge saves for the Colorado Springs team, earning them another three points, and further solidifying their place as the No. 1 team in the Western Conference once again.

The Switchbacks are back home on Saturday the 18th as they take on Indy Eleven at our Father’s Day celebration match.
