Arsenal have reportedly had a £42.5million opening bid for Manchester City‘s Brazil star Gabriel Jesus rejected.
However City have made their position on Jesus very clear. They are prepared to sell him, but only for £51m, according to GOAL.com, and Arsenal have so far been unwilling to pay that.
Jesus is supposedly not interested in a switch to the Gunners after they failed to qualify for the Champions League this season, and European Champions Real Madrid are now rumoured to be interested after failing to land Kylian Mbappe.
Gabriel Jesus’ four-and-a-half-season stay at Manchester City looks to be coming to an end
His representatives were reportedly in London last week, but it is Madrid where the player is likely to get what he wants, and the Spanish giants interest has blossomed recently, having failed to land Mbappe from PSG.
Ancelotti himself is believed to have endorsed the move, believing Jesus can fulfil a similar role to the one the club had laid out for the French forward, but any move would likely see him play on the right of a front three rather than his favoured No 9 role.
Jesus current deal at the Etihad is up at the end of next season, and he is not thought to be interested in extending his stay in Manchester, having reportedly told Pep Guardiola he intends to leave this summer.
Mikel Arteta, who coached the striker for three seasons at City, has already had a bid rejected
The Brazilian has often been a victim of Guardiola’s ruthless rotation policy, and after Jack Grealish’s arrival from Aston Villa, as well as the emergence of Phil Foden, he has found his playing time somewhat limited.
Last season he did make 41 appearances, but only played 2,569 minutes which equates to just over 28 full games.
