Thorns FC Earn 3-0 Shutout Win Against Angel City FC at Providence Park

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC earned a 3-0 shutout win against Angel City FC at Providence Park on Saturday night. Kelli Hubly opened Portland’s account with her first career goal and Christine Sinclair notched a brace to secure the win. With her two goals, Sinclair now ranks tied for second all-time in goals in NWSL history.

Christine “The Goat” Sinclair

Christine Sinclair scored her second and third goals of the season tonight, tying Sophia Smith for the team lead (3). The brace was Sinclair’s eighth multi-goal game in her NWSL career in regular season play. Sinclair is now tied with Lynn Williams for the second-most goals scored in NWSL history (57).

NWSL Firsts

Tonight’s match marked the first meeting between Thorns FC and Angel City in NWSL regular season play. Kelli Hubly scored her first NWSL career goal, while Hina Sugita and Janine Beckie each tallied their first NWSL regular season assists for Portland. Additionally, Gabby Provenzano made her regular season debut as a second-half substitution.

Goal-Scoring Plays

POR – Kelli Huby (Sophia Smith), 15th minute: Sophia Smith sent in a curling corner kick to the center of the box and Kelli Hubly fired a header into the top right corner of the net.

POR – Christine Sinclair (Hina Sugita), 18th minute: Hina Sugita picked off a pass in the center of the field and dribbled forward, slipping the ball into the box for Christine Sinclair, who slotted a left-footed shot past Angel City goalkeeper Didi Haracic.

POR – Christine Sinclair (Janine Beckie), 68th minute: Janine Beckie kept the ball in play at the endline, turning with her touch and lofting a cross to the back post. Sinclair met the ball in the air, sending a header down and into the back of the net.
