Timbers Drop 2-1 Result against Inter Miami CF on the Road

Timbers Travel to Face Los Angeles FC in 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 Match

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Portland Timbers dropped a 2-1 result against Inter Miami CF on Saturday night at DRV PNK Stadium. After going down two nil, Portland cut Miami’s lead with a powerful headed goal from Bill Tuiloma in the 78th minute but could not complete the comeback. Tuiloma’s goal was his team-leading fifth of the season and fourth headed goal of the 2022 campaign. The Timbers and MLS now head into a FIFA international break, spanning from May 29 to June 14.

Big Bill in the Box

Bill Tuiloma scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season, and fourth with his head. He’s in a three-way tie for the most headed goals in MLS this year. Tuiloma has scored three goals in Portland’s last four matches and averages 0.41 goals per 90 minutes played this season.

Timbers on International Duty

Bill Tuiloma and Pablo Bonilla are set to represent their respective countries during the upcoming FIFA international break from May 29 to June 14. Tuiloma and New Zealand will face Costa Rica for the World Cup Qatar 2022 Intercontinental Qualifying match on June 14 at Al Rayyan Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The winner of the match will punch a ticket to the main draw of the World Cup, claiming the last available spot. Additionally, Bonilla will join Venezuela to face Malta on June 1 at the National Stadium Malta in Ta’ Qali, Malta and Saudi Arabia at Estadio Nueva Condomina in Murcia, Spain.

MCF – Leonardo Campana (Christopher McVey, Bryce Duke), 27th minute: Bryce Duke slipped a pass down the left wing of the field to find Christopher McVey, who crossed a left-footed ball into the box on his first touch.
