Huddersfield Boss Slams VAR as Forest Ends 23-Year Wait for Promotion

Huddersfield Boss Slams VAR as Forest Ends 23-Year Wait for Promotion

Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan was left fuming with the VAR after Nottingham Forest clinched promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.

Town went down 1-0 to Forest in Sunday’s promotion playoff final at Wembley, decided by Levi Colwill’s 43rd minute own goal.

The Terriers were denied for two penalty shouts, with Harry Toffolo booked for diving after going down under Jack Colback’s challenge, while no action was taken after Lewis O’Brien tangled with Max Lowe.

The VAR was consulted for the incident involving Toffolo but decided there was no foul, allowing the yellow card to stand.

“No idea what the point of VAR is,” Corberan said. “I don’t know if they can review actions, if the referee doesn’t ask?

“The players felt that they would have finished the actions if it wasn’t a foul, because both had clear advantages to finish the attacks.

“You have the referee and VAR. We were close to finishing the attacks and I can only accept the decisions.”

Meanwhile it was a joyous afternoon for former European Cup winners Forest who havent been in the top flight since 1998-99.

“We are a a big football club, we know that it’s full of history and tradition. We stand on that, proud,” Cooper told BBC Radio Nottingham.

“I’ve always said ‘let’s try to create a next positive chapter’ and we have managed to do that.

“For everyone connected to the football club this is a day to be proud of. They deserve to be back in the Premier League where they belong.”
