Arsenal ‘acutely aware’ of interest in defender

According to reports, Juventus are ready to ‘launch a full-scale attempt’ to sign Arsenal defender Gabriel during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners paid £27m to sign the 24-year-old ahead of the 2020/21 campaign. He joined them from French side Lille.

Gabriel has played 70 times for Arsenal across all competitions over the past two seasons.

The centre-back has contributed with five goals this term as he has been a shining light for Arsenal, who have finished fifth in the Premier League.

It has emerged in recent weeks that Juventus are interested in signing Gabriel. 

The Mirror are reporting that this is because they see him as the ‘perfect replacement’ for Georgio Chiellini. The 37-year-old is leaving the club on a free transfer this summer.

Juventus are of the belief that they can ‘lure’ Gabriel away from Arsenal, so they have ‘stepped up their attempts’ to sign him.

Arsenal are understood to be ‘acutely aware’ of Juventus’ stance and it is hinted that they ‘may look to offer him an improved deal to keep him’.

Elsewhere, Mikel Arteta is reportedly ‘pushing’ Arsenal to make an opening bid of £25m for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Tielemans is entering the final year of his contract at the King Power and is attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe.

He is said to be keen on playing Champions League football; however, Arsenal fans have been given hope that the Belgian will move to the Emirates after they missed out on the top four.

The Telegraph report that Gunners boss Arteta is ‘pushing’ the club to make a £25m bid for Tielemans, with the player and his representatives ‘now open’ to playing in the Europa League.
