New England Revolution to Face FC Cincinnati in Fourth Round of 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

May 14, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – New England Revolution News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (3-5-2; 11 pts.) will visit Atlanta United FC (4-4-2; 14 pts.) on Sunday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The nationally televised contest begins at 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. Sunday’s match also airs locally on the radio via 98.5 The Sports Hub and 1260 AM Nossa Radio in Portuguese.

New England heads into Saturday’s match unbeaten in its last three contests and with multi-goal performances in six straight games, including Wednesday’s 5-1 win over FC Cincinnati in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32. Midfielder Carles Gil took command of the match with three goals and one assist, marking his first hat-trick performance in a Revolution uniform and the club’s first in the Open Cup. Adam Buksa logged his second brace of 2022 as he extended his scoring streak to five consecutive games, including four straight in MLS play. Buksa, who leads New England with eight tallies across all competitions, now has six goals in his last five appearances. Together, Gil and Buksa form one of the league’s most potent duos with a combined five goals and four helpers in their last five league matches.

A pair of Revolution veterans are poised to make their 100th MLS regular season starts on Sunday as goalkeeper Matt Turner and defender Brandon Bye both enter the weekend on the cusp of the century mark. Turner, the 2021 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, owns a 1-1-1 career record in three league starts against Atlanta. Bye and fellow outside back DeJuan Jones, who opened his 2022 account in New England’s most recent league match against Columbus last weekend, both rank among the league’s top defenders in chances created and successful crosses. Tenth-year veteran Andrew Farrell and third-year pro Henry Kessler have anchored the backline in central defense in each of the last three games.
