TAMPA, Fla. – There weren’t many goalkeepers busier than San Antonio FC’s Jordan Farr in the USL Championship over the month of April.
And as the 27-year-old stepped into the lineup for the first time since his full-time move to the club last offseason, that was just the way he liked it.
“It was nice to get that many saves from a positional standpoint [against Phoenix on April 2], you got to touch the ball a lot,” said Farr, who posted seven saves against Rising FC in his 2022 debut. “A lot of crossing scenarios, a lot of defensive scenarios that I got to see that quickly brought me up to speed with this group, specifically with that run of games.”
With a league-high 18 saves and four shutouts across five games, posting a save percentage of 90 percent and a goals-against average of 0.40, Farr was named as the USL Championship’s Player of the Month for April on Thursday as his form helped SAFC sit as one of the leading contenders to win the Western Conference and challenge for the league title.
Farr’s move to San Antonio from Indy Eleven came after a short stint at the club last postseason. Acquired as an emergency loanee following an injury sustained by starter Matt Cardone in the final game of the regular season, Farr started all three of SAFC’s playoff games. After serving as a backup to fellow new arrival Cristian Bonilla at the start of this season, he picked up the starting spot again after the Colombian elected to retire and has barely looked back. Farr credits the side in front of him for the achievements he’s delivered since joining the starting lineup.
“With this award, being player of the month, as a goalkeeper especially, it comes only at the expense of what the team has done,” said Farr. “I’ve been lucky to be in a position to make saves and to get shutouts but at the end of the day this is a team award. … I couldn’t credit the boys in front of me enough, and then the staff and…
