LOS ANGELES – The Portland Timbers dropped a 2-0 result to Los Angeles FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup round of 32 on Tuesday night at Banc of California Stadium. Portland will resume regular-season play on Saturday, May 14, playing host to Sporting Kansas City at Providence Park.
U.S. Open Cup History
Tonight’s match marked Portland’s 35th match in the U.S. Open Cup, dating back to 2004. The Timbers have an all-time record of 19-16-0 in the competition and 12-9-0 in the club’s MLS era since 2011.
Debuts
The Timbers’ latest signing, Nathan Fogaça, earned his debut for the Timbers, playing a full 90 minutes. On short-term loans from T2, Victor Griffith and Julian Bravo also recorded their debuts for Portland. Griffith started the match and logged 66 minutes, while J. Bravo entered the match as a late-game substitute.
LFC – Cristian Arango (Kwadwo Opoku), 32nd minute: Kwadwo Opoku received the ball near the endline on the right side of the field. He cut back a driven cross towards the near post for Cristian Arango to back-heel flick into the goal.
LFC – Mamadou Fall, 54th minute: The Timbers defended an LAFC corner kick and deflected away the first ball in. Mamadou Fall pounced on the loose ball in the center of the box, firing a one-touch shot low into the left corner of the goal.

The Timbers were knocked out of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in the round of 32.
The match marked Portland’s 35th U.S. Open Cup game, dating back to 2004.
Overall, Portland is 19-16-0 in Open Cup play, and 12-9-0 in its MLS era.
