West Ham United ‘in pole position to pounce for’ out of contract Arsenal striker

According to reports, West Ham United are ‘in pole position to pounce for’ Eddie Nketiah this summer should he decide to leave Arsenal on a free transfer.

The forward is out of contract at the end of this season. He and Alexandre Lacazette are currently Arsenal’s only natural centre-forward options.

This is with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang departing the club to join FC Barcelona back in February.

Nketiah has featured prominently for the Gunners in recent weeks. He has started their last five Premier League games.

Arsenal have won four of these games. The Englishman has netted braces in victories against Chelsea and Leeds United.

The 22-year-old refused to discuss his future over the weekend when asked about his situation by Laura Woods.

The Daily Mail are reporting that West Ham United are the side in ‘pole position’ to sign Nketiah should he decide to exit Arsenal.

The player’s representatives have had ‘two rounds of talks’ with Arsenal and another meeting is scheduled.

West Ham boss David Moyes is ‘desperate to add more goals’ to his team and they are ‘ready to take advantage’ of Nketiah’s contract situation.

On Monday, Garth Crooks suggested that Arsenal “would be crazy” to let Nketiah leave when his contract expires at the end of the season:

Writing in his BBC column, former Tottenham striker Crooks says that Nketiah has the ability to be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s long-term replacement at Arsenal.

“It looks like Arsenal have finally found a striker to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,” Crooks said.

“I find it extraordinary that a 22-year-old English forward, who finds himself at a club like Arsenal and playing the football of his life, hasn’t had his future nailed down by the club.

“He clearly has all the attributes that make a top player. Even if Arsenal were to buy a renowned goal scorer they would be crazy to let Nketiah…
