The agent of soon-to-be Borussia Dortmund striker Karim Adeyemi has revealed both he and his client rejected interest from Manchester United.

Adeyemi has developed impressively with RB Salzburg and has in fact become a senior Germany international. The 20-year-old moved to Austria in 2018 as a youth player but has now made almost 100 first-team Salzburg outings.

However, he will not reach that milestone amid his impending transfer back to Germany with Dortmund.

The Bundesliga club have identified Adeyemi as their ideal replacement for Manchester City-bound striker Erling Haaland.

Dortmund will subsequently pay €38million (£32.5million) for Adeyemi, who will have no release clause.

But speaking to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the player’s agent revealed that Man Utd tried their luck with Adeyemi to no avail.

“We’re now close to completing the deal with Borussia Dortmund,” Thomas Solomon said.

“There will be no release clause included into his five-year deal. [Ralf] Rangnick? Yes, Manchester United wanted to enter the race – but we want BVB.”

Adeyemi has earned his move to the Bundesliga following an impressive couple of seasons in Austria.

Last term was the first as a regular in the team and the forward played 38 games, scoring nine goals and assisting 11 others.

This campaign, meanwhile, six strikes in the first four league games saw him rewarded with his first Germany outing, which he capped with a goal.

He now has 23 goals for the season and could yet add to his tally, with two games left.

Adeyemi following in Haaland footsteps

Adeyemi’s rise is similar to how Haaland shot to fame at Salzburg. The Norwegian announced himself with a hat-trick on his Champions League debut in 2019/20.

He then scored against Liverpool at Anfield. As a result, Dortmund and United both also went after the 21-year-old in the January transfer window.
