Boubacar Kamara on the ball for Marseille

Aston Villa are set to have a heated transfer battle on their hands if they want to sign 22-year-old Boubacar Kamara from Marseille this summer.

Villa are desperate for a holding-midfielder to strengthen the spine of their team next season. They will hope such an addition can help them make further progress up the Premier League table.

The Daily Mail report that Steven Gerrard’s team have held talks with Kamara in regard to a move. They are set to be looking to sign him when he is out-of-contract in the summer.

Douglas Luiz has been a regular feature of the Villa midfield for the majority of the season. The Brazil international has however been rumoured with a move away this summer.

Gerrard has also travelled across the English channel to watch Kamara in action against Nantes in April this year.

The 22-year-old has been in stellar form for Marseille all season averaging a rating of 6.85 in all competitions according to WhoScored.

Although by trade Kamara is a defensive-midfielder, he has also been known to play at centre-back or even left back.

Kamara’s versatility would benefit the Villans as it would provide them with much more strength in depth for the upcoming season.

Players such as Geoffrey Kondogbia, Yves Bissouma and Kalvin Phillips have also been consistently linked with a move to Villa Park.

Kamara’s potential suitors

Villa aren’t the only team vying for Kamara’s signing this summer however, with Atletico Madrid also reportedly interested.
