LOS ANGELES – The LA Galaxy today announced that defender Jorge Villafaña has been placed on the Season-Ending Injury List.

Villafaña, 32, did not appear in a match for the Galaxy during the 2022 campaign due to a osteochondral lesion of the left knee. The Anaheim, Calif., native made appearances (20 starts) for LA during the 2021 MLS Regular Season. Across 13 seasons in MLS, Villafaña has logged 10 goals and 24 assists in 209 games played (179 starts). Per MLS rules, if a player suffers a season-ending injury, a club may place that injured player on the Season-Ending Injury List and receive roster relief (i.e., an open roster slot). Once placed on the Season-Ending Injury List, the injured player will not be eligible to play for the club in any remaining competition during that MLS season (including any exhibition games or tournaments, including but not limited to: Leagues Cup, Campeones Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup).

Playing the first of three matches in seven days, the LA Galaxy (5-3-1, 16 points) square off against Austin FC (6-1-2, 20 points) today, Sunday, May 8 at Q2 Stadium (4:00 p.m. PT; FS1 and FOX Deportes).
