Chelsea suffered a blow to their hopes of sealing third place in the Premier League after Wolves netted a stoppage-time equaliser to draw 2-2 at Stamford Bridge.
After a goalless opening period, the home side scored twice in as many minutes at the start of the second half as Romelu Lukaku fired home from the penalty spot after the referee overturned his original decision, before producing a clinical finish from the edge of the box.
Wolves hit back through Trincao and, after dominating the closing stages, they got what they deserved when Conor Coady powered home a header in the seventh minute of stoppage-time.
Chelsea are now just four points clear of Arsenal and six clear of Tottenham, who both have a game in hand. Wolves remain eighth.
The home side, who had potential new owner Todd Boehly watching on from the stands, started brightly with Timo Werner testing Jose Sa in the Wolves goal with an early strike.
After Romain Saiss headed a good chance over the bar for the visitors, Christian Pulisic was the next to go close when he drilled an effort wide.
The in-demand Ruben Neves saw a trademark long-range strike deflected wide off his own teammate Raul Jimenez before Romelu Lukaku, handed a rare Chelsea start, saw a close-range effort saved by Sa.
Thomas Tuchel’s men thought they had taken the lead when Ruben Loftus-Cheek bundled home from close. However, after a lengthy VAR check the Chelsea midfielder was ruled just offside.
An end-to-end clash then saw Pedro Neto force Edouard Mendy into a good stop, with Leander Dendoncker firing the rebound over.
Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri had the last chance of an open first period. However, he failed to test Mendy when he should at least hit the target.
Chelsea score two in two
Chelsea came out firing at the start of the second period, with Werner seeing a volley kept out by Sa, before they took the lead in the 56th minute.
It was a mistake by Saiss as the big defender had a nibble, not once but twice, at Lukaku…
