Late Goals from Servania, Anderson Secure NCFC’s 2-1 Win over FC Tucson

TUCSON, AZ – North Carolina FC defeated FC Tucson on the road on Saturday night, relying on an equalizer from Jaden Servania and a penalty kick conversion from Oalex Anderson to rally from behind and collect three points. Servania’s goal was his first of the regular season, and Anderson added a second to his season tally. Deri Corfe scored the lone goal for Tucson.

“Extremely proud of this group and amazed with the effort they put in in the second half,” said Head Coach John Bradford following the match. “We looked like a group that was intent on getting three points and knew that the first half wasn’t as good as we wanted it to be. We’re building an identity as a team that can be successful on the road, and the guys truly believe they can get three points anywhere. I’m proud of a lot of individuals for stepping up and making a consistent effort throughout the second half to make sure we got the win.”

Tucson were quick to break the ice in tonight’s contest, the scoring play beginning as Corfe received a slot pass from Daniel Bedoya in the box. Now in at close range, Corfe’s first touch saw the forward convert Bedoya’s service to score his first goal of the regular season, giving Tucson a 1-0 edge in the 9th minute of play. The scoreline held through the first half, despite several scoring chances resulting from the combined efforts of Anderson, Luis Arriaga, and Garrett McLaughlin.

Intent on recovering the deficit in the second half, it was Servania who brought NCFC level in the 68th minute. Beating his defender, the midfielder slipped a shot past Tucson goalkeeper Carlos Merancino and into the lower 90 to knot the score at 1-1 and collect his first goal of the regular season.
