Late Goal Sinks FC Tucson against North Carolina

FC Tucson Rally Twice to Cut Down Chattanooga

May 7, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1) – FC Tucson News Release

After taking a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes into Saturday night’s match, FC Tucson gave up a pair of second-half goals to drop a 2-1 decision to North Carolina FC at Kino North Stadium.

FC Tucson got off to a fast start.

In a brilliantly worked set of passes in the ninth minute, Yuki Shibata charged down the right side before feeding the ball to Daniel Bedoya who then cut it across to Deri Corfe. The Englishman then easily slotted in his first goal of the season. Corfe had seven USL League One goals last season.

Unfortunately, FC Tucson was not able to put a second goal in the net and North Carolina begin to shift the momentum.

North Carolina pulled even on a breakaway goal by Jaden Servania in the 68th minute.

The game looked destined for a draw before a late penalty just inside the box in added time gave North Carolina the opportunity to steal the win.

Oalex Anderson converted the game-winner to send North Carolina back home with the three points.

QUOTES

“We just need to be smart. We had some counter attacking chances to finish the game off, and we didn’t. We have four key guys go out and the fifth guy goes out. Who’s doing well without five starters? Nobody is, it’s a battle.” – FC Tucson Head Coach Jon Pearlman

“We came out with the right attitude, but North Carolina is a team that has controlled possession, it did it last year. But, you can’t drop points at home. When we get back here, we better come back here with some points and with the resolve, because that’s the expectation.” – FC Tucson Head Coach Jon Pearlman

“Thought we controlled the game pretty well in the first half. In the second half, we just lost the energy. I think we let them come at us and we were really defensive. Overall, I think the energy in the second half just let us down.” – FC Tucson Midfielder Burke Fahling
