May 6, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Memphis 901 FC News Release

Charleston, SC. – Memphis 901 FC dominated in all facets of a 2-0 win at Charleston Battery on Friday night in Charleston, South Carolina.

Memphis went ahead in the 32nd minute on a goal from Luiz Fernando, his first goal of the season. Just eight minutes later, Jeremy Kelly netted his third goal of 2022 for the final tally.

In the game, Memphis registered 10 more total shots than Charleston (18-8) and allowed just one shot on goal. The lone Charleston shot came shortly after a Memphis red card and was saved beautifully by goalie Andrew Romig. Romig took two steps to his right and dove magnificently through the air to prevent Charleston from pulling within one.

The Memphis defense conceded just one corner on the night and earned six corners of its own. Possession in the match was virtually even, with 901 FC possessing the ball 51 percent of the match.

The win puts 901 FC in a tie for third with Pittsburgh in the USL Championship Eastern Conference through eight league matches played. With the win, Memphis has won three of its last four matches and earned at least a point in four of its last five USL Championship matches.

Memphis returns to AutoZone Park on Saturday, May 14 to play host to Indy Eleven for a 7:00 p.m. CDT kickoff.
