Chelsea are reportedly frustrated as sanctions placed against owner Roman Abramovich has hampered their plans of making a move for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland. 

The Blues are banned from signing players as part of the special licence which currently grants them permission to play games, after the Russian oligarch was sanctioned due to his ties with president Vladimir Putin, amid the country’s ongoing war with Ukraine. 

Haaland is currently Europe’s most in-demand striker and has scored a staggering 85 goals in 87 games since joining the Bundesliga side in January 2020.

ESPN have reported that the Blues are unhappy that they can’t even attempt a move for Haaland as they look to set miss out on one of football’s biggest young talents.  

Thomas Tuchel’s side had identified Haaland as a potential addition to replace Romelu Lukaku who has had a disappointing second spell at Stamford Bridge.

With Chelsea out of the race, it has opened up an easier path for Manchester City to land the £64million striker.
