LA Galaxy Acquire Defender Chase Gasper from Minnesota United FC

LA Galaxy Travel to Face California United Strikers FC in Round of 32 of Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

LOS ANGELES – The LA Galaxy today announced that the club has acquired defender Chase Gasper from Minnesota United FC in exchange for $450,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM). Gaspar is under contract with the Galaxy through the end of the 2025 MLS Regular Season. LA will also send a conditional $300,000 in GAM if certain performance metrics are achieved. The Galaxy will retain $220,000 of Gasper’s 2022 budget charge, while Minnesota will pay the remainder of his 2022 budget charge.

Gasper, 26, joins LA after tallying two goals and two assists in 77 games played (73 starts) across all competitions with Minnesota United FC (2019-22). Last season, Gasper tallied one goal in 30 MLS regular-season appearances (30 starts) for Minnesota. In one appearance for Minnesota in 2022, Gasper played five minutes off the bench in the Loons’ 2-0 win over Forward Madison FC in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Alexandria, Va., native tallied one goal and one assist in 18 regular-season appearances (16 starts) in his second season with Minnesota in 2020. In his first season as a professional in 2019, Gasper played in 15 matches (14 starts) in league play for Minnesota United. Notably, Gasper played in every match during Minnesota’s run during the 2019 U.S. Open Cup, including starting and playing 90 minutes in the final against Atlanta United FC on Aug. 28, 2019.

Gasper was selected 15th overall by MNUFC in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Maryland (2017-18), where he tallied five assists in 29 games played (28 starts) and helped the Terrapins claim the 2018 NCAA Men’s National Championship.
