Tottenham boosted as Conte favourite Stefan De Vrij can join for inviting price if two rivals beaten

Inter Milan have set an asking price of just £15million for Tottenham Hotspur defensive target Stefan De Vrij, according to a report.

De Vrij is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur in a potential reunion with Antonio Conte, who coached him at Inter. Indeed, the Dutchman was a key element of the side that won Serie A last season under the current Spurs boss.

He played in 32 of their 38 league games as they finally ended Juventus’ stranglehold on the Scudetto. This term, the title race – with rivals AC Milan – is going down to the wire.

De Vrij will be hoping to add another piece of silverware to his cabinet before a potential departure from Inter in the summer. His contract with them runs until 2023.

Given their financial challenges – which forced them to split with Conte and sell Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi last summer – Inter cannot afford to let him leave for free next year.

But according to Football Insider, no talks are open about any kind of contract extension for the 30-year-old. Instead, it seems more likely that Inter will cash in on him.

Once again, they will need to make some sacrifices – especially if they are to afford signings of their own. Given they also have Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar in defence and are targeting Gleison Bremer, they may be able to cope without De Vrij despite his importance.

Therefore, they will listen to offers in the region of £15m for the former Lazio man. In turn, that will put Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa on alert.

All three are interested in giving him his first taste of Premier League football. The Conte connection – as well as European football – could in theory give Tottenham an advantage.
