Nottingham Forest promotion to prompt huge Djed Spence transfer decision

Djed Spence Forest May 2022

Djed Spence is set to turn down some of Europe’s elite clubs, if Nottingham Forest are promoted to the Premier League, TEAMtalk understands.

Right-back Spence is on-loan at Forest from their Championship rivals Middlesbrough, who have already made it clear that they are looking to sell. Boro allowed Spence to move on to allow Isaiah Jones the chance to impress. And Jones, 22, been outstanding himself – meaning the Teessiders are ready to cash-in on the former.

Boro are looking for around £17m for Spence. And it is understood Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have all checked on the former Fulham youngster.

The 21-year-old, who signed an extension with Boro before moving to the City Ground on loan, is keeping his options open. But it is understood that if Forest are promoted then he is ready to commit to the club.

Spence has scored twice and grabbed five assists in 37 Championship appearances for Forest. He has been one of Steve Cooper’s key men in a defence which has conceded the least goals in the Championship.

Brennan Johnson to follow Djed Spence?

Forest have already secured their place in the play-offs and have their thoughts on automatic promotion.

They are three points behind second-placed Bournemouth and face them at the City Ground on Tuesday night. A win would lift them above their rivals on goals scored.

Forest then face Hull away on the final day, while Bournemouth host Millwall.

We understand that Forest chiefs have already prioritised signing Spence on a permanent deal, if they manage to claim promotion.

It is also understood that Forest believe that promotion would also see them keep Brennan Johnson.

The Wales winger has also enjoyed a brilliant season with Forest, scoring 15 goals and nine assists. And the club believe a place in the top flight will help them agree fresh terms with in-demand winger.
