Friend of Newcastle attacking target Victor Osimhen namechecks Toon over potential switch

A friend of Victor Osimhen has explained the star’s ambitions in football, and named Newcastle United as a potential destination.

Osimhen has become on of Europe’s hottest talents over the past couple of seasons. The Nigerian forward has scored goals in pretty much every league he has played in.

In the past two seasons for Napoli, he has bagged a total of 26 goals in all competitions, and provided eight assists. The season prior to his £67million move to Serie A, he found the back of the net 18 times, for Lille.

Given his natural goalscoring talents, he has been eyed for another big move. Indeed, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Manchester United are among the sides linked with the prolific forward.

A friend of Osimhen feels a Premier League move could be on the cards.

“I think the Premier League clubs can afford figures of around €100m, just think of Newcastle, controlled by Saudi Arabia: the question, however, is to understand if there is actually an offer,” he told CalcioNapoli24.

Of course, Osimhen’s desires are a big factor in the move, but Napoli would surely like to make a big fee, thinks his friend.

“What matters is the will of Victor Osimhen? Napoli spent over €70m to buy him from Lille and certainly would like to collect a lot of money in the event of a sale,” he added.

“It would be a matter of business, but the club would be happy to keep him and Victor himself would be happy to stay in the city.”

While that may be true, there will still be a lot of sides vying for the transfer of the striker.

Conflict of interests for Osimhen

It seems there could be something of a conflict of interests for Osimhen. His friend states two separate ambitions of his, that cannot go hand in hand.

“Victor wants to write the history of Napoli as Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain did, but it is clear that one day he would not say no to a Premier League experience: that could be a new destination.”
