Ralf Rangnick has reportedly been tempted by a job offer from the Austrian FA and could walk away from his Manchester United consultancy role.
The Old Trafford interim boss is coming to the end of his spell in the dugout following his arrival in November. While he steadied the ship somewhat after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure, he has not inspired a massive turnaround.
United hope Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who will succeed Rangnick, can do that job. Nevertheless, United plan to use Rangnick’s experience as a sporting director from this summer onwards.
Indeed, the German agreed to move into a two-year consultancy role working with Man Utd chiefs.
According to the Daily Mail, though, that plan is in serious doubt after the Austrian FA approached Rangnick.
Unsere Burschen are looking to find a successor to Franco Foda, who left the national team post in March. And the newspaper claims that Gerhard Milletich, president of the Austrian FA, will announce the new coach in Vienna on Friday.
Rangnick feels ‘tempted’ by the offer and ‘is ready to turn his back’ on United to move into international management.
The report comes after the Austrian FA denied a report claiming interest in Rangnick back in April. Peter Schottel, the sporting director at the Austria team, reportedly travelled to Manchester to speak to the coach.
He did so under the orders of RB Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund. Freund is another senior figure inside the national team with links to Rangnick.

The latest claims from the Daily Mail come after Rangnick admitted he has not talked to Man Utd about the sort of advice they want from him.
