Ornstein reveals length of new Jurgen Klopp contract as Liverpool boss extends spell at Anfield

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has reportedly penned a new contract at Liverpool, and The Athletic reporter David Ornstein has revealed how long it lasts for.

The manager’s previous terms ran until 2024. Many thought the German would leave Anfield at the end of the 2023-24 campaign and take a year, or more, out of the sport.

But Liverpool have grown increasingly confident of tying him down to a fresh agreement in recent days. Earlier on Thursday, reports indicated Klopp was open to staying with the Reds beyond his existing deal.

Ornstein now comes in with a crucial update. He claims Klopp has signed a new contract with the quadruple-chasing side.

It will keep him on Merseyside until 2026 – potentially giving Liverpool supporters four more years of the talismanic boss.

Klopp previously stated his decision would rely on whether he has enough energy to stay in the job for so long. The Athletic reveal Klopp to be ‘energised’ by Liverpool’s hunt for four trophies this season.

Having already won the Carabao Cup, they are pursuing for silverware in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

Klopp’s agent, Mark Kosicke, was in attendance during their 2-0 victory over Villarreal on Wednesday night. It put Liverpool in a strong position to reach their third Champions League final in five years.

Sat a few seats away from the representative was Mike Gordon, president of Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG).

The chief travelled to the city to aid contract renewal talks with Klopp, and it seems his help has paid off.

Klopp has taken Liverpool back to the summit of English and European football since joining in October 2015. Under his guidance, they have won their first ever Prem title and the sixth European cup in the club’s history, among other accolades.
