Jurgen Klopp with a big grin after Liverpool beat Barcelona

Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon has revealed that he had no doubts Jurgen Klopp would sign an extension after the early indications on his future.

Klopp signed a new deal on Thursday which will keep him at Anfield until the end of the 2025/26 season. The German’s previous contract expired in 2024 and he had long insisted that nine years would be enough on Merseyside.

“It was about him having the inclination and desire to keep going. In this respect, it is clear he is more energised than ever.”

Gordon described Klopp as the “perfect figurehead” for Liverpool and lauded his strengths as a “leader”.

The Reds are still on course for a Carabao Cup, Champions League and FA Cup treble this season. They could yet make it a quadruple if Manchester City slip up in the Premier League title race.

Klopp’s success, which currently amounts to five major trophies, has come from several standout signings.

But, the manager outlined his desire to adapt his squad with more signings in the future. Gordon reflected the sentiment and insisted that Liverpool are in the perfect position to progress even further.
