Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC earned their second home victory of the season with a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.
901 FC used a stellar performance from Laurent Kissiedou and Aaron Molloy as the team remains unbeaten in their 13th consecutive USL Championship match after leading at halftime.
901 FC took no time putting the Rowdies on their heels as they marched right into the Tampa Bay box off the kickoff. Jeremy Kelly struck a ball across the six-yard box to Phillip Goodrum who tipped in the goal on his first touch to give 901 FC their quickest goal in franchise history with only 30 seconds played.
The Rowdies worked quickly to answer, however, Lewis Hilton fired a free kick from just outside the penalty box into the top left corner of the goal for the 5th minute equalizer.
The next chance for 901 FC came in the 19th minute, as Kissiedou took a rebounded shot and nearly curled a strike off his left foot into the top corner, but the ball sailed just over the crossbar.
Memphis 901 FC ran out on a three-on-two counter moments later with Aaron Malloy feeding a pass into Kissiedou, who danced in the penalty box before the threat was stifled by a diving Raiko Arozarena.
Memphis 901 FC was awarded a free kick during first half stoppage time, Aaron Molloy delivered a crossing kick into the penalty area, where Dodson rocketed a header past the keeper for his first goal of the season to put Memphis up 2-1 at the half.
Memphis fought off efforts from the Rowdies throughout the second half and kept the lead thanks to a strong save from goalkeeper Trey Muse in the 70th minute.
Chris Allan scored his first goal of the season in his first minute on the pitch tonight, finishing a crafty counter attack from 901 FC sparked by a Molloy through ball at midfield to extend the lead to 3-1 in the 85th minute.
