Man Utd plot £35m raid for Sebastien Haller amid admission of potential Erik ten Hag ‘weakness’

Manchester United have made Ajax striker Sebastien Haller a transfer target following the arrival of Erik ten Hag as manager, a report has claimed.

The Red Devils are facing a pivotal rebuild under their new Dutch coach amid a poor end to the season. Initial excitement after Cristiano Ronaldo’s return dropped off as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got the sack.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick has proven unable to inspire a major turnaround. United are therefore staring at the prospect of finishing outside the Premier League’s top four.

Nevertheless, Man Utd have big ambitions for the summer transfer window to give Ten Hag a promising start.

Reports have claimed that a top new striker signing is on their radar. Indeed, while Ronaldo is still performing well, the 37-year-old is coming to the end of his career.

And according to The Sun, Ivory Coast international Haller has become a target for United and Ten Hag.

Ten Hag signed the former West Ham man in January 2021 following his failed spell in the Premier League. However, Haller has lit up the Eredivisie and the Champions League since he moved across Europe.

The 27-year-old has scored 46 goals in 62 games for Ajax, including 33 in 39 outings this season. Eleven of those came in eight Champions League games, with Haller scoring in all group stage games.

He has three years left on his contract at the Dutch giants and would cost £35million, The Sun adds.

United are reportedly looking towards Haller because they cannot afford the likes of Tottenham star Harry Kane.

Haller recently spoke about Ten Hag’s move to Old Trafford. He said that the manager’s success “depends on the dressing room”, with the atmosphere at United significantly different to that at Ajax.

The striker added that Ten Hag’s “quality” of his tight-knit dressing room may become a “weakness” based onto the environment he finds himself in in Manchester.
