Paul Scholes thinks Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was “a disgrace” for complaining to the referee during their 3-1 victory over Manchester United.

Victory for the Gunners increased their chances of finishing in the top four, while Man Utd now look extremely likely to miss out.

Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka got the goals for fourth-placed Arsenal as they went six points clear of the Red Devils.

Mikel Arteta was seen complaining to referee Craig Pawson shortly before he awarded Arsenal a penalty for a foul on Saka inside the box.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Scholes labelled Arteta “a disgrace” over his behaviour, he said: “At the time, I thought it was offside.

“I didn’t really think of the foul, to be honest. That brings into question whether it’s a clear and obvious error, which is the only reason it should go to the VAR.

“It’s a coming together, of course, it is. I think Arteta is a disgrace there. He shouldn’t be allowed to do that.

“If you see it again, he actually goes to the crowd to try and influence the referee a little. All the players around them as well.

“That shouldn’t be allowed. But it’s a little bit clumsy from Telles.”

Meanwhile, Arteta admits Arsenal were “trembling” for a period before regaining their composure in their win over Man Utd.

“I think it was a phenomenal game for the spectators and the fans. For us it was a bit of a rollercoaster. We wanted to start the game really quick, really fast. Dominating them, creating issues, very vertical, and we managed to do that. We dominated big periods in the first half.

“We scored two goals. But then that moment when they scored straight after our second goal, left us a little bit cold and insecure to how they reacted. So we had a period of five to ten minutes where we weren’t really clear…
