A report in the USA claims Celtic are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal from Tottenham.
The 24-year-old is currently on a season-long loan with the Bhoys and has already picked up silverware. He was part of the Celtic side that beat Hibs 2-1 in the final to win the Scottish League Cup. And the US international is in line to collect another winners’ medal this term.
Celtic are three points clear of Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership and have a game in hand on their rivals. Carter-Vickers has impressed since his switch to Glasgow, making 28 league appearances and 44 in all competitions.
Manager Ange Postecoglou is said to be a big fan of the Essex-born defender. And reports suggest there is an agreement in place for the loan to be made into a permanent deal.
Details of any potential fee are sketchy but it is said that the Hoops might need to fork out £10m to get a deal over the line.
They may be prepared to do that as SBI Soccer are reporting that Celtic are in “advanced talks” to sign the talented stopper.
However, other clubs might also have a say in proceedings. The likes of Leicester City, Wolves and Burnley have all been linked with a move for the player.
However, the latter’s status as a Premier League outfit is still up in the air due to their ongoing relegation battle.
Carter-Vickers needs to put down roots
Carter-Vickers came up through the Tottenham youth system. He was handed his first-team debut in September 2016 as Spurs beat Gillingham 5-0 in the EFL Cup.
However the man from Southend-on-Sea has made just five appearances for the north Londoners but none in the league. He has enjoyed 141 league appearances for seven different clubs, enduring a nomadic lifestyle for the past five years.
The centre-back has enjoyed temporary spells at Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City, Luton Town and Bournemouth. Therefore it was no surprise when he was shipped to Celtic Park…
