Brentford boss Thomas Frank makes ‘crazy’ point about Tottenham after declaring there was ‘only one winner’

Thomas Frank, Tottenham v Brentford April 2022

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank insisted it was “crazy” that his side posed the biggest threat in the 0-0 draw with Tottenham.

The two sides showed an overall lack of quality at the Brentford Community Stadium. Spurs, in fact, put in another sluggish performance and had no shots on target. They have now failed to win in two games.

Brentford’s point, meanwhile, extended their Premier League unbeaten run to four matches. And that spell has come after nine league games without a win, including seven defeats.

However, the icing on the cake for Frank with the latest Brentford result was the manner of it given the circumstances.

“I’m massively proud,” the Danish coach told Match of the Day. “I think it was a top performance against a very good Tottenham side that came with their strongest players.

“We had so many injuries with our centre back situation. We played with two new centre backs, a new wing back, without our normal number six and we limited perhaps the best front two in the league to nothing.

“Plus we created chances and opportunities. I think there could be only one winner – us – and that is crazy to be honest.”

Indeed, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min struggled to create chances for Tottenham. Dejan Kulusevski was also quiet.

Brentford were without record signing Kristoffer Ajer, Mathias Jorgensen and Ethan Pinnock at centre-back.

“We missed these players,” Frank added. “We were a little down to the bare bones but the players stepping in are focused, well prepared and ready to help the team.

“I think we started the season very well. Then we started getting our injuries. Then we had the bad spell with results but performances were quite sold actually. Now we are in a better spell, it is easier for players to step in.”

Brentford’s latest point saw them reach the 40-point mark, hailed as the magic number for survival.

However, Frank is now looking to kick on and finish the season…
