EPL: Burnley Boost Survival Hopes, 'We Haven't Changed A lot'

Burnley have breathed life into the Premier League’s relegation battle much to the delight of caretaker manager Mike Jackson who admits he’s not changed a lot since taking over.

The 18th-placed Clarets got past Southampton 2-0 on Thursday with goals from Connor Roberts and Nathan Collins.

The result means Burnley move to 28 points from 32 games, sitting behind 17th-placed Everton in safety on 29 points from 31 games.

Leeds United are in 16th on 33 points from 32 games, with Aston Villa above them on 36 points from 31 games.

“When you are in it, you are that enthralled and engrossed you don’t get the chance to enjoy it,” Jackson told BBC. “It is a great result for everyone involved – all the staff and everyone.

“They have gone for it. They have rallied around each and been really focused. They are trying to prove a few people wrong.”

Burnley opted to sack long-time manager Sean Dyche earlier this month as they bid for a way to stay up, having struggled for wins all season.

Jackson added: “We haven’t changed a lot. We have tweaked a few things. The strength of this team, of this group, is the group. The togetherness.

“I am not reinventing the wheel here, all I’m doing is preparing the team. The drive and effort is the identity that has always been here. They have just remembered.

“The fans stayed with us, even during a little lull in the second-half. They went again. I didn’t expect anything less. We are going to need them.”
