City-bound Haaland ‘disrespected’ Dortmund who will be ‘better off’ without him, says Hamann

Dietmar Hamann has claimed that Manchester City-bound striker Erling Haaland has been “disrespectful” to Borussia Dortmund.

The Norwegian has reportedly given the ‘green light’ to join the Premier League champions this summer.

It is believed that Haaland will sign a five-year deal at the Etihad worth £500,000 per week with his £63m release clause to be activated by Pep Guardiola’s side.

He has been linked with numerous clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and City.

The 21-year-old has scored 82 goals in 85 matches for Borussia Dortmund since joining from RB Salzburg for £18m in 2020.

It has been a long transfer saga with multiple teams thrown in the mix. Former City and Liverpool midfielder Hamann has described the situation as a “circus”.

He believes the Dortmund fans are “fed up” with all the rumours and believes the German club will be better off without Haaland.

Hamann told Bild (via the Daily Mail): “I think that not only the fans, but also the team and the club are fed up with the whole circus.

“At BVB, players will score goals even without Haaland. That has always been the case. I actually think it will help Dortmund in the short or medium-term if Haaland is no longer there.”

The German also criticised Haaland’s body language this season, claiming that he has been “disrespectful” at times.

“He drew a lot of attention to himself. Then he did his lap of honour in front of the Sudtribune alone in the winter. His gestures, his waving off and his body language have been disrespectful at times.
