Newcastle defender Dan Burn praises ‘monumental achievement’; makes big Eddie Howe claim

Newcastle United defender Dan Burn thinks Eddie Howe should win manager of the season due to his ‘monumental achievement’ at the club.

When Howe took over from Steve Bruce last November, the Magpies were in 19th. But the job Howe has done since that time has been unbelievable.

The manager, helped by the funds given to him by the new ownership, recruited well in January. The £91million that Newcastle shelled went on some quality signings.

Burn, as well as Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes were all bought by the club. The latter has played as big a part as any, justifying his £37.89million fee, as he has contributed to four goals in 12 appearances, starting only six of those.

Howe has inspired Newcastle to 11th in the league currently, eight places above where they were when he took control. Burn rates his manager very highly for his achievement in the six months he has been in charge.

“It’s some achievement to have gone from where we were when the new ownership came in to our position now,” he said via The Guardian.

“The atmosphere here now reminds of when I used to come to St James’ Park as kid and watch the team playing in the Champions League.”

Burn even thinks the manager could be in line for a big award, given the impressive job he has done, and how he has united the squad.

“After turning it around the way he has, he’s a real contender for manager of the season,” he added.

“It’s about the mentality he’s brought in, the way we train, the sense of real togetherness he’s created. It’s brought the players and the fans closer together; we’re all pulling in the same direction.”
