Crystal Palace have made contact about the potential transfer of Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure, according to one French reporter.
There have been clear signs of progress for Crystal Palace under Patrick Vieira this season. They reached the FA Cup semi-finals and in the Premier League, one more win would get them to the 40-point mark. Indeed, they are closing in on a mid-table finish.
With the foundations now set, next season could be another exciting one at Selhurst Park. To prepare for it, there could be some further moves in the transfer market.
And according to Fabrice Hawkins, one area that Crystal Palace could replenish is in midfield. In that department, they are being linked with a move for five-time Mali international Cheick Doucoure.
Per Hawkins, Palace have even made contact with Doucoure’s entourage. They are said to be “very interested” in signing the 22-year-old.
However, although they are in touch with those who represent the midfielder, they are yet to get in contact with his current employers at Lens.
The Ligue 1 side have Doucoure under a contract until 2024. They have given him 31 appearances between Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France this season.
Soon, though, they could risk losing him in the first transfer of his career. In that event, Palace would be hoping to benefit by bringing him to the Premier League.

Alternatively, Doucoure could end up moving to the German Bundesliga. There, Wolfsburg are at a similar stage to Palace in terms of their interest.
But with no offers made by either club yet, it is still all to play for in the race to sign Doucoure.
He was linked with Aston Villa last summer and has been mentioned as a potential Tottenham Hotspur target recently. But Hawkins’ information suggests it could be between Palace and Wolfsburg to snap him up.
It is not yet clear how much such an operation may cost either club.
