Champions League club to win Ben Brereton Diaz race as West Ham, Leeds miss out

Ben Brereton Diaz is closing in on a lucrative move overseas with a move to an established Champions League side closing in, TEAMtalk understands.

The Chile international has enjoyed the best season of his career with 21 goals to date. They have come in 34 Championship appearances – 31 of them of starts – helping Tony Mowbray’s side push for promotion. At one point, Rovers were riding high in second and looking good for automatic promotion.

However, their worst run of the season could not have been timed worse. As such, Blackburn are now all the way down to eighth, having won just once – against now relegated Derby – since the end of February.

And with three games left of the regular season, Blackburn are three points adrift of Sheffield United, who occupy the sixth and final play-off berth.

With a Premier League return now looking beyond them, it’s little surprise then to see Brereton Diaz nearing the exit door.

The 23-year-old’s current deal is due to expire this summer, though Blackburn do have an option to extend this by 12 months. As such, the club has already informed Brereton Diaz they will be taking this up.

Numerous clubs in England are keen on the striker with Leeds and newly-promoted Fulham amongst them. We have also revealed in the past how West Ham were looking to sign the forward in the January window. However, Blackburn’s lofty valuation at the time scuppered the Hammers’ plans.

In addition, Brighton are also understood to have offered players in exchange for his signing.

However, we can reveal that a move to Spain is on the cards, with Brereton Diaz nearing a move to Sevilla.

Julen Lopetegui’s side are currently third in LaLiga and are looking to book a return to the Champions League.

Currently level on points with Atletico Madrid, the pair both need to fight off Real Betis, who are three points worse off and having played a game more.
