EPL: Klopp Takes No Joy in 9-0 Man Utd Humiliation

Jurgen Klopp had no interest in humiliating Manchester United verbally after his Liverpool routed the Red Devils for the second time in this Premier League season on Tuesday.

Liverpool thrashed United 4-0 with a double from Mohamed Salah along with strikes from Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane to move into top spot, with Manchester City to play Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday.

The Reds’ win also comes after they hammered old rivals United 5-0 earlier in the league season in October.

“I’m not here to humiliate opponents or whatever,” Klopp said when asked about that. “That is absolutely not the reason. We did what we had to do and we won the games, that’s how it is.

“United is obviously in a difficult situation; look at the line-up tonight, they played without their centre-midfielders and I think McTominay was only here to show up, I don’t think he was ready probably. When you are already in a difficult situation, very often in life you get another knock.

“Whether it is a derby or not it is not easy to play against us. That’s why the 9-0, I’m not interested. That’s really something for the supporters; if they want to celebrate 9-0 then they can do that, but it’s not for me.

“We wanted three points and if it would have been 1-0 twice I would feel exactly the same – and I know it will not last forever. They will strike back, they will be there again, this club is too powerful, but in the moment – for tonight – we were too good, that’s the truth.”

City must win Wednesday’s clash with Brighton re-claim top spot, with Liverpool now two points ahead.

Watford and Everton meet in a crucial relegation clash on Wednesday, while lowly Burnley host Southampton and Newcastle entertain Crystal Palace.
