Klopp hoping Liverpool can return to their 'best' against 'strong' Manchester City

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted he hopes his side can return to their best ahead of their FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

The two sides faced off in Premier League action last weekend, and despite City dominating the action and Liverpool struggling, it finished 2-2 leaving the title race wide open.

They will renew acquaintances at Wembley on Saturday and when asked what he took from last week’s meeting, Klopp admitted he would like his side to play at their best.

Speaking in his press-conference ahead of the game, the German said: “We think a lot about these games. City were really strong last week and we were not at our best.

“So I’d like to see a game where we are at our best. Why don’t we give that a try?

“The boys did a lot of good stuff in the game, but there were a couple of things and I know that we can perform to a different level.

Liverpool come into the tie on the back of a 3-3 draw with Benfica at Anfield that was enough to see them through to the semi-final of the Champions League.

City also advanced to the semis on the same night, after a gruelling 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid in a game that wasn’t without it’s drama.

Klopp was asked if he thought that gave Liverpool an advantage at Wembley, but the Liverpool boss isn’t so sure.

“We had it last week before we played City (in the league). We had an away game and arrived the next day. Travelling is intense. Will it give an advantage? I have no idea. For both teams I think their games were intense.”

Liverpool have struggled in the FA Cup under Klopp, often prioritising other competitions and this is in fact his first FA Cup semi-final in charge of the Reds.

But despite his lack of history in the competition, Klopp is well aware of it’s importance.

“The FA Cup is a massive competition. So far we couldn’t even get to the semis, so it’s our first experience of a semi-final at Wembley, but better…
