Only six players safe as Conte eyes summer exodus, according to Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor believes only six Tottenham players are “safe” from being sold in the summer transfer window.

The north Londoners have hit form at the right time under Antonio Conte. They have won six of their last seven in the Premier League.

Conte’s side are now leading the race to finish fourth ahead of West Ham, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Despite their excellent form, Agbonlahor doesn’t see a long-term future at the club for many players in the first-team squad.

The former Aston Villa striker believes summer signing Emerson Royal ‘is not good enough’ and was high in praise of Tottenham stalwarts Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.

“Wing-backs are big for Conte,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“Emerson Royal I don’t think is good enough, especially going forward on the ball. Sergio Reguilon, I do like and Ryan Sessegnon is up and coming.

“Conte is going to make a lot of big changes. He’s not going to just be happy to finish in the top four, he’ll want to go for league titles, that’s what he’s used to.

“If you look at that squad, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Hugo Lloris, Heung-min Son, Harry Kane and Cristian Romero, apart from them nobody’s safe. Romero looks very good, very strong and very aggressive.

“The others are not title-winning players.”

Meanwhile, Conte is expected to take charge of Saturday’s match against Brighton despite testing positive for Covid-19.

Conte tested positive at the weekend and has been “appropriately distancing” to avoid spreading the virus, according to the Premier League side.

Tottenham expect the Italian to be symptom-free in time for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off at home to Brighton.

Conte’s pre-match press conference will now take place on Thursday via Zoom, rather than in-person at the club’s Hotspur Way training ground in Enfield.
