Oleksandr Zinchenko ‘perfect target’ for West Ham as Guardiola gets set to rectify Man City problem

Man City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko could be on the move to West Ham thanks to a Pep Guardiola re-jig, according to a report.

Zinchenko has been with City for nearly six years now having joined shortly after Guardiola was appointed as manager in the summer of 2016. Following an initial season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, he has been used sparingly by his boss.

The 25-year-old has shown his talent in that time, but has found it hard to compete in a world-class team.

However, he would be a great first-choice option for a team lower down in the Premier League.

And this summer could finally be the time for him to move on and establish himself in such a position.

Zinchenko’s contract at the Eithad expires in 2024 so City would still receive a good sum of money for him.

And Guardiola is said to be looking at recruiting another left-back. That’s because Joao Cancelo has largely played out of position there this season.

Despite being mightily impressive, Cancelo is better suited to the right side of defence where he can compete with the ageing Kyle Walker.

It seems Zinchenko will not be trusted to fill the vacancy so would be playing second fiddle again.

According to Claret and Hugh, West Ham have taken note of the situation as he would be the ‘perfect target’ for them.

They state David Moyes is an admirer of Zinchenko and tried to sign him last summer. ‘Discreet enquires’ were made about his potential availability.
