Mauricio Pochettino to Man Utd ‘more real than ever’, as Rio Ferdinand gives interview insight from talks

Mauricio Pochettino has held formal talks with Manchester United about becoming their new manager, according to a report.

The Paris Saint-Germain boss has managed the French giants since January last year and extended his contract last summer. Since then, though, talk of PSG sacking him has ramped up.

The Ligue 1 side have lost four of their last six games. While three of those defeats have not dented PSG’s title push much, the Champions League collapse against Real Madrid was the major standout.

Nevertheless, Man Utd have made former Tottenham manager Pochettino a firm candidate for their soon-to-be vacant post.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has already had an interview about taking over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford. United will also speak to Spain coach Luis Enrique. Still, he has insisted he is going to the World Cup with Spain in November.

As a result, Foot Mercato has reported that the Red Devils have therefore held talks with Pochettino.

The possibility of the Argentine moving to Old Trafford is now ‘more real than ever’, the report adds.

However, United chiefs have insisted to Pochettino that they will not rush their final decision.

The 50-year-old initially rose to Premier League prominence with Southampton. Tottenham then snapped him up in the summer of 2014.

Spurs progressed well under Pochettino and came close to Premier League title glory in 2016. What’s more, they reached the Champions League final in 2019.
