Luis Enrique reveals firm decision after Man Utd manager approach

Luis Enrique has insisted that he will see out his Spain contract until after the World Cup in Qatar, as Manchester United chase him for an interview.

The 51-year-old has emerged as one of the leading candidates to take over at Old Trafford from Ralf Rangnick. While the German remains in interim charge after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking, United want to change direction again.

Ajax coach Erik ten Hag has already held formal talks with Red Devils chiefs. Indeed, the Dutchman and Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino rank higher at this stage in United’s estimations.

Initial reports claimed that problems for both Ten Hag and Man Utd emerged after their discussions.

However, Fabrizio Romano labelled the talks “positive” and revealed the manager and club chiefs discussed transfer budget and targets.

Nevertheless, Enrique is another candidate and he has a contract until after the latest edition of the World Cup.

Speaking about his future, he told the Daily Mirror: “I will be in Qatar with Spain because I have given my word and there is nothing that makes me more excited than representing my country in the World Cup; later, we’ll see.”

Enrique previously added that he feels “super supported” by the Spain hierarchy. Indeed, he is into his second term with the national team.

Spain qualified as Group B winners, confirming their place in Qatar with a 1-0 win over Sweden in November.
