Man Utd want contract talks with two key first-team stars despite continuous Rangnick snubs

Manchester United are reportedly keen to enter contract negotiations with both Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw, despite both players struggling to make Ralf Rangnick’s first team in recent times.

The Red Devils are looking to tie down some of their top talent to new contracts, with recent reports suggesting that Bruno Fernandes is closing in on a new five-year deal worth over £12million-a-year.

But the Portuguese playmaker is not alone in drawing attention from Old Trafford decision-makers.

ESPN claims that United want to push ahead with talks for Rashford and Shaw, despite there being no clarity as yet over who will be the club’s next permanent manager.

Rangnick is in interim charge before he takes an advisory role in the summer, while Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui continue to be linked with the job.

But both Rashford and Shaw have struggled to convince the German they are worthy of regular starting spots.

ESPN adds, however, that the England pair are still viewed as important members of the squad worth keeping.

At this stage, Rashford is ‘open-minded’ about his future and is no rush over a new deal. Both Liverpool and Arsenal have been tipped to try and sign the winger in recent weeks.

The 24-year-old is currently trying to force his way back into the Three Lions squad. He was left out of the party for the friendly clashes with Switzerland and Ivory Coast this week.
