Chelsea star Mount opens up on big ‘concern’ for squad amid takeover uncertainty

Chelsea star Mason Mount admits that the uncertainty over the current ownership is a ‘concern’ for the whole first-team squad and the club.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are currently up for sale after Roman Abramovich stepped back from the club on March 2 due to Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, with the UK Government then imposing sanctions on him eight days later.

At the current time, the facilitators of the sale, Raine Group, look to have named their preferred bidder. However, as reported in Football London, much now depends on the situation once all offers are on the table.

And speaking after England’s friendly win over Switzerland, Mount confessed that the Chelsea players are somewhat daunted by the whole saga.

He said: “I’ve been at the club since I was six-years-old and something like this has not happened before, so it can be a concern. At the beginning, and even now, we don’t really know where it’s going and what’s happening the next day.

“So it’s difficult. But we focus on our football and what we can do is try and win as many games as we can. Obviously I’m away with England, so that stuff is kind of parked and I’m focusing on England duty and what I can do while I’m away.”

Mount hopes to receive an update on the takeover when he returns to Cobham next week. But he also stated that the tension has been relieved knowing the players can still do their part on the pitch.
